2. CÓMO Y CUÁNDO UTILIZAR FOR, DURING O WHILE.
Estas tres palabras se usan para expresar "períodos de tiempo" y, básicamente,
se traducen como FOR (durante), DURING (durante) y WHILE (mientras). Y el hispanohablante suele tener dudas acerca de cuándo utilizarlos correctamente.
FOR and DURING
Se usa FOR + período de tiempo para expresar cuánto tiempo dura algo. Observa estos ejemplos:
We watched televisión for two hours last night. Miramos televisión durante dos horas anoche. Eliza is going away for a week in May. Eliza se va durante una semana en mayo. Where have you been? I've been waíting for ages. ¿Dónde has estado? He estado esperando (durante) añares.
Se usa DURING + sustantivo para expresar cuándo algo sucede (no "cuánto tiempo dura"). Observa estos ejemplos:
I fell asleep during the movie. Me quedé dormido durante la película.
We met a lot of nice people during our vacation. Conocimos mucha gente interesante durante nuestras vacaciones. The ground ís wet. It must have rained during the night. El suelo está humedo. Debe haber llovido durante la noche.
Recuerda entonces que no puedes usar during para expresar cuánto dura algo (como ocurre en español). Presta atención: CORRECTO >> It rained for three days. INCORRECTO >> It rained during three days.
DURING and WHILE
Como ya has visto during se usa con la estructura during + sustantivo. Por el contrario while se usa con la estructura while + sujeto + verbo. Observa estos ejemplos:
I fell asleep during the movie. Me quedé dormido durante la película.
the movie = NOUN
I fell asleep while I was watching the movie. Me quedé dormido mientras estaba mirando la película.
I + was watching = SUBJECT + VERB
Otro ejemplo utilizando ambas versiones:
We met a lot of interesting people during our vacation. Conocimos mucha gente interesante durante nuestras vacaciones. We met a lot of interesting people while we were on vacation. Conocimos mucha gente interesante mientras estábamos de vacaciones.

That song, “Hound Dog” was one of Elvis Presley’s most popular records.
It sold five million copies in 1956. Music industry
experts say more than one thousand million of Elvis’s recordings
have sold throughout the world. He was a success in
many different kinds of music – popular, country, religious, and

Elvis Presley won many awards from nations all over the
world, yet he did not record in any language other than
English. He never performed outside the United States, except for three shows in Canada. Yet, his recordings and films have

Elvis Aaron Presley was born in the southern town of Tupelo, Mississippi
on January 8th, 1935. His family was extremely poor. During his childhood, he sang in church with

He also listened to music that influenced his later singing, including

Elvis Presley recorded the song at the Memphis Recording Service. The story is that he paid four dollars to make a recording for his mother. A woman
who worked at the public recording studio had another job with a local
independent record company called Sun Records. She made a second recording of
Elvis’s songs because she thought the owner of Sun

The owner of Sun Records, Sam Phillips, had been looking for a
white performerwho could sing black rhythm and blues. He suggested
Elvis work with a guitar player and a bass player. Several months
later Mister Phillips agreed to have the group make a record. It
was released on July 19th, 1954. One of the

The record sold well in Memphis, and was played a lot
on local radio stations. To let others hear Elvis, Sam Phillips organized a
