Tina is a new tenant and has some problems in her apartment, so she calls Mr. Smith, the apartment owner. Listen to them and pay close attention to the way they pronounce the highlighted phrases and words.

TINA:	Hello, Mr. Smith. This is Tina, your new tenant in Apartment 2C.
MR. SMITH:	Hello, Tina, what can I do for you?
TINA:	Um, I'm having some problems in the apartment. The central heating needs to be fixed, the apartment needs to be painted , and the refrigerator isn't working.
MR. SMITH:	I don't understand this. You didn't point out any of these problems when we looked at the apartment last week.
TINA:	To be honest, I didn't notice the heater or the refrigerator problems then because I hadn't turned them on.
MR. SMITH:	OK. That makes sense.
TINA:	And I think I did point out that the ceilings in the living room and the bedroom were stained. In fact, all the walls and ceilings are stained, chipped, and cracked. I thought we agreed that you would paint.
MR. SMITH:	Well, why don't I come over right now and take a look?
TINA:	OK. Thanks.

FOUR COMMENTS ABOUT AMERICAN ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION:
1. Please notice how Tina pronounces the word "painted". British people would pronounce it / péintit / while Americans pronounce it / péinit /.
